Abstract
Specifically, it aims to: 1. Determine the profile of diabetic clients in terms of age, gender, educational attainment, civil status, activity of daily living, lifestyle, disease duration, and knowledge about the disease, social support and consultation status. 2. Determine the level compliance of the respondents regarding the treatment regimen of diabetes mellitus. 3. Determine the significant difference in the compliance in the treatment regimen of diabetic clients when the client are grouped according to age, gender, educational attainment, civil status, economic status, activity of daily living, lifestyle, disease duration, knowledge about the disease, social support, and consultation status. The major findings of this study are the following: 1. The respondents' profile showed that out of the 100 diabetic clients, fifty-two percent (52%) consisted of 35-65 years of age, thirty-four percent (34%), consisted of 18-35 years of age, and fourteen (14%) percent are 65 and above. Fifty-three percent (53%) are male, and forty-seven (47%) were female. Thirty-five percent (35%) of the respondents were college graduates, thirty-two percent (32%) high school graduates, seventeen percent (17%) finished vocational courses, and sixteen percent (16%) were elementary graduates. Fifty-six percent (56%) of the respondents were married, twenty-eight percent (28%) single, ten percent (10%) widowed, and six percent (6%) were seperated. In terms of economic status, fifty-four percent (54%) had a economic status of P10,000 and below, seventeen percent (17%) had an economic status of which ranges P10,001-20,000), fifteen percent (15%) P20,001-30,001 and fourteen percent (14%) have an economic status P30,001 and above. In terms of activity of daily living, sixty-eight percent (68%) of the respondents do exercise, and the remaining thirty-two percent (32%) do not exercise. seventy six percent (76%) of the respondents have active lifestyle, and twenty-four percent (24%) have a sedentary lifestyle. In terms of disease duration, sixty perent (60%) have disease duration of 1-3 years, twenty percent (20%) for both 3-5 years and 5 years and above. Thirty percent (30%) of diabetic client know the signs and symptoms of the diabetes, twenty-eight percent (28%) know the possible complications of diabetes and forty-two percent (42%) know how to self-monitored blood sugar level. In terms of social support from their family, twelve percent (12%) from relatives, and five percent (5%) support coming from the health center. In terms of consultation status, fifty-eight percent (58%) have an irregular consultation status at least twice a week, and twelve percent (12%) doen't seek for consultation. 2. The mean level of 3.26 revealed that the respondnets had a moderate compliance in the treatment regimen of Diabetic Mellitus. 3. The level of complaince of respondents regarding the treatment regimen is not significantly different in terms of age, gender, civil status, activity of daily living, lifestyle, disease duration, knowledge about the disease, social support, and consultation status. On the other hand, there is a significant difference in the compliance in the treatment regimen in terms of educational status and economic status. From the aforementioned findings, the following conclusions were drawn: 1. Majority of the respondents were 35-65 years of age, males, college graduates took up vocational course, married, and with a family income of P10,000 and below. Most of them do exercise and have an active lifestyle. They have the disease duration of 1-3 years and have an adequate knowledge when it comes to the signs and symptoms of diabetes mellitus. Social supports came from their family and have an irregular consultation at least once a week. 2. Most of the clients had a moderate compliance regarding the treatment regimen. 3. Levels of compliance to the treatment regimen were not significantly different regardless of age, gender, civil status, activity of daily living, lifestyle disease duration, knowledge about the disease, social support, and consultation status while there is a significant difference in compliance in the treatment regimen in terms of educational attainment and economic status.
