Abstract

To be able to determine and compare the level of anxiety of elderlies living in their own home and elderlies living in nursing homes. B. SPECIFIC: a. To know the profile of the respondents in terms of gender, marital status, religion, functional ability, economic status, and educational attainment. b. To determine the level of anxiety of elderlies living in their own home and elderlies living in nursing homes. c. To find out if there is a significant difference in the level of anxiety of elderlies living in thei own home and elderlies living in nursing homes. d. To find out if there is any significant difference in the level of anxiety of elderlies living in their own home and elderlies living in nursing homes in terms of gender, marital status, religion, functional ability, economic status, and educational attainment. This study focused on the level of anxiety of elderlies living in their own home and elderlies living in nursing homes. The demographic factors such as the gender, marital status, religion, functional ability, economic status, and educational attainment were also considered for their contributing effect to the level of anxiety of the elderlies. This study had eighty seven respondents. They consisted of 49 elderlies livning in their own home and 38 elderlies living in nursing homes. The inclusion criteria for the respondents consisted of (a) elderlies 65 years old and above who are able to hear and comprehend well, without any neurologic disorders, (b) male or female, (c) for elderlies living in their own home: a resident of Cavite, (d) for elderlies living in nursing homes: a resident of Mama's Hope Haven in General Trias, Bahay Pag-ibig at Pag-asa in Imus, and Tahanan ni Maria in Carmona, (e) willing to participate in the study. The researchers explored the different areas in Cavite, specifically Dasmariñas and Imus, for elderlies living in their own home. They also went to Mama's Hope Haven in General Trias Cavite.  The profile of the 87 elderly respondents revealed that majority of them are female which accounted for 64 or 73.56% of the total number of respondents, 30 or 43.68% are widowed, 68 of 78.16% are Catholics, 63 or 72.41% are earning Php 5,000 and below, 30 or 34.48% are elementary graduates, and 65 or 74.71% are able to perform activities of daily living with total independence. 2. The level of anxiety of elderlies living in their own home is low as revealed by an average weighed mean of 1.68. Most of the respondents are afraid that something bad might happen to their loved ones and vey few of them are unhappy with themselves whereas wht elderlies living in nursing homes have a mild level of anxiety revealed by an average weighed mean of 1.81. most of them would rather keep their problems to themselves than share it with others and very few of them are feeling that they are worthless. 3. There is no significant difference between the levels of anxiety of elderlies in their own homes and elderlies living in nursing homes since the F-test revealed that the computed F-value of 1.84 is less than tabular value of 4.10. 4. There is a significant difference in the level of anxiety of elderlies living in their own home and elderlies living in nursing homes in terms of gender since the computed F-value of 4.47 is greater than the tabular value of 4.10. There is no significant difference in the level of anxiety of elderlies in their own home and elderlies living in nursing homes in terms of marital status since the computed F-value of 1.65 is less than the tabular value of 2.72. There is no significant difference in the level of anxiety of elderlies in their own home and elderlies living in nursing homes in terms of religion since the computed F-value of 2.17 is less than the tabular value of 4.10. There is no siginificant difference in the level of anxiety of elderlies in their own home and elderlies living in nursing homes in terms of f 2.65 is less than the tabular value of 3.16. There is a significant difference in the level of anxiety of elderlies in their own home and elderlies living in nursing homes in terms of economic status since the compute F-value of 11.84 is greater than the tabular value of 2.47. There is a significant difference in the level of anxiety of elderlies in their own home and elderlies living in nursing homes in terms of educational attainment since the computed F-value of 23.53 is greater than the tabular value of 2.17.
