Abstract
this study aims To determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and the level of compliance regarding insulin therapy among clients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus in selected Barangay Health Centers in Bacoor, Cavite B. SPECIFIC 1.To know the profile of the respondents in terms of age, gender, socio-economic status, family history of Diabetes Mellitus, religious affiliation, civil status, and educational attainment; 2.To determine the level of knowledge regarding insulin therapy among clients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus; 3.To determine the level of compliance regarding insulin therapy among clients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus; 4.To determine if there is significant differences in the level of knowledge regarding insulin therapy when the respondents are grouped according to age, gender, socio-economic status, family history of Diabetes Mellitus, religious affiliation, civil status, and educational attainment; 5.To determine if there is significant differences in the level of compliance regarding insulin therapy when the respondents are grouped according to age, gender, socio-economic status, family history of Diabetes Mellitus, religious affiliation, civil status, and educational attainment; and 6.To determine if there is significant differences in the level of knowledge and the level of compliance regarding insulin therapy. This study involved 50 respondents diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus from selected Barangay Health Centers in Bacoor, Cavite to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and level of compliance regarding insulin therapy. Respondents are male or female, single or married, employed or unemployed and have been clinically diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. This also involved respondents who are coherent and willing enough to answer the questions. The following are the findings drawn from this study: 1.Among the 50 total number of respondents, 74 percent belong to the middle adulthood group, with ages ranging from 35-65 years old, 56 percent are male, 52 percent have a family income of Php 10,001-Php20,000, 98 percent have a family history of Diabetes Mallitus, 68 percent are Non-Catholic, 76 percent are married and 48 percent are elementary undergraduates. 2.Clients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus from selected Barangay Health Centers in Bacoor, Cavite have a high level of knowledge regarding insulin therapy as indicated by an overall mean of 4.34. This means that the clients are educated and well informed regarding insulin therapy. 3.Clients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus from selected Barangay Health Centers in Bacoor, Cavite have high level of compliance regarding insulin therapy as indicated by an overall mean of 4.45. This means that most of the clients observe strict adherence to insulin therapy. This is a positive indication that clients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus from selected Barangay Health Centers in Bacoor, Cavite had complied with insulin therapy to obtain the maximum health status. 4.There is no significant difference in the level of knowledge among clients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus when grouped according to age since the critical value of 3.49 is greater than the F-ratio of 0.70. The same can be said about gender since the computed tabular value of 2.01 is greater than the computed T-ratio of 0.42. In terms of socio-economic status, no significant difference exists since the computed F-ratio of 0.13 is less than the tabular value of 0.08. There is also significant difference on the family history of Diabetes Mellitus since the computed tabular value of 2.01 is greater than the T-ratio of 0.00. On the level of religious affiliation, no significant difference exists since the computed tabular value of 2.01 is greater than the computed T-ratio of 0.08. There is also no significant difference on the level of knowledge according to civil status and educational attainment since the computed tabular value 3.49 is greater than the F-ratio of 1.19 the computed tabular value of 3.49 greater than the F-ratio of 0.46, respectively. 5.There is no significant difference in the level of compliance among clients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus when grouped according to age since the computed tabular value of 3.71 is greater than the computed F-ratio of 2.81. With gender, no significant difference exists since the computed tabular value of 2.01 is greater than the T-ratio of 0.63. In terms of socio-economic status, there is no significant difference since the computed tabular value of 3.71 is greater than the F-ratio of 3.43. On the family history of Diabetes Mellitus, there is no significant difference since the computed tabular value of 3.71 is greater than the T-ratio of 0.00. In terms of religious affiliation, there was no significant difference exists since the computed tabular value of 0.48 is greater than the T-ratio of 0.15. On the civil status, there is no significant difference since the computed tabular value of 2.45 is greater than the t-ratio of 0.56 and in the educational attainment, there is no significant difference since the computed tabular value of 3.71 is greater than the F-ratio of 0.09. 6.There is significant relationship between the level of knowledge and level of compliance regarding insulin therapy among clients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. The correlation coefficient was found to be equal to 0.71, which indicates that the level of compliance and the level of knowledge have high positive correlation. Since information nowadays can be easily accessed through different forms of mass media such as internet, public service announcements from the DOH, books, magazines, and many others, the level of knowledge on diabetes increases encouraging them to be more compliant.
