Abstract
This study aims to compare the level of awareness on health issues of fourth year high school students in Vel Maris School and Dasmariñas National High School. SPECIFIC: This research sought to: 1.Know the profile of the respondents in terms of gender, religion and type of family. 2.Know the level of awareness on health issues as perceived by fourth year high school students in Vel Maris School Inc. and Dasmariñas National High School. 3.Determine if there is a significant difference on the level of awareness of the respondents when they are grouped according to gender, religion and type of family. 4.Discem significant difference on the level awareness of health issues of fourth year high school students of Vel Maris School Inc. and Dasmariñas National High School. The following are the findings drawn from the study: 1. The respondents were grouped according to gender, religion and type of family. Out of 200 students, 66% are female and 345 are male, 83% are Catholics while 17% are non-Catholics. Most of them belong to a nuclear type of family (77.5%), while students from extended families were documented at 21%. For the other three, two are self-supporting while one is living with a guardian. 2.There were four health issues raised, wherein the respondents' level of awareness will be measured. The issue about smoking earned a total mean of 2.81. For drug addiction - 2.77, alcoholism - 2.64, and pregnancy- 2.67, all interpreted as aware. The level of awareness on health issues of fourth year high school students from both Vel Maris School Inc. and Dasmariñas National High School had an overall mean score of 2.72, which is also interpreted as aware. 3.There is no significant difference found on the level of awareness of male and female fourth year high schools students from both schools. The same goes for computed P-value is 0.15 which is greater than 0.05 level of significance so the null hypothesis is accepted. The same goes when respondents are grouped according to religion. Since the computed P-value 0.83 is greater than 0.05 level of significance, the null hypothesis is accepted. When grouped according to type of family, the computed P-value is 0.088 and 0.05 level of significance; therefore, the null hypothesis is accepted. 4.There is no significant difference in the level of awareness to health issues of fourth year high school students from Vel Maris School, Inc. and Dasmariñas National High School. The computed P-value of 0.46 is greater than 0-05 level of significance, denoting non-significance.
