Abstract

This study utilized the correlational research design. The study used convenience sampling to determine the number of respondents. The total number of respondents that were involved in this study was 150 elderly. The respondents had been chosen in terms of age, gender, decision-maker in performing hygienic practice, monthly income and functional level. The researcher-constructed questionnaire was employed as data gathering instrument. Data was analyzed through frequency, percentage, mean, t-test, f-test and Pearson’s R. The following conclusions were derived from the aforementioned findings: 1) Majority of the elderly residents in selected communities in Dasmarinas, Cavite were 60 to 65 years old, female, primary decision-makers in hygienic practice, included in the income group of P5,000 and below, and functions without assistance; 2) The elderly residents in selected communities in Dasmarinas, Cavite have very high level of hygienic practices; 3) The elderly residents in selected communities in Dasmarinas, Cavite have very high level of well-being; 4) There are no significant differences in the level of hygienic practice of elderly residents in selected communities in Dasmarinas, Cavite when they are grouped according to age, decision-maker and functional level. However, there was significant difference in the level of hygienic practice of elderly residents when grouped according to gender and monthly income; 5) There was a significant difference in the level of well being of the elderly respondents when grouped by decision maker in performing hygienic practice. However, there was no significant difference in the level of well-being of the elderly respondents when grouped by age, gender, monthly income and functional level; 6) There was a significant relationship between the level of hygienic practice and the level of well being of elderly residents in selected communities in Dasmarinas, Cavite.
