Abstract

The study utilized the non-experimental, quantitative, descriptive type of research design to determine the level of awareness of mothers regarding Kangaroo Mother Care in selected barangays in Dasmarinas, Cavite. A purposive type method for sampling technique was used to gain a total population of 275 mothers from different barangays in Dasmarinas, Cavite. The study used a questionnaire from the study “The Level of Knowledge and Level of Attitude of Postpartum Women towards Kangaroo Mother Care at Dr. Jose Fabella Hospital” by Gandia, M. et al., (2005). The statistical treatments used in this study for data analysis were relative frequency distribution, percentage, mean and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) via f-test. As an outcome of this research, the following conclusions were drawn: 1) The profile of the respondents showed that majority belong to the age bracket 19-35 years old and were able to finish high school. In terms of their obstetric history, 39% of respondents have one child and had one number of miscarriages; 2) Most of them were Catholics and have a monthly income of P10,000 and below; 3) The level of awareness of mothers in selected barangays in Dasmariñas, Cavite regarding Kangaroo Mother Care was moderate; 4) There were no significant differences in the level of awareness of mothers when they were grouped according to their age, educational attainment, religion, obstetric history and family income.
