Abstract

This study utilized a non-experimental, quantitative, descriptive correlational type of research design. Using simple random sampling technique, a total of 100 respondents were selected within three hospitals in Cavite, ages 21 and above, regardless of gender. The instrument used in this study was adopted and further modified from the thesis of Angon and others. Statistical treatments utilized are frequency distribution, percentage, mean, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) via f-test, t-test for independent samples, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The study concluded the following: 1) Majority of the respondents from selected hospital in Cavite were 21 to 25 years old, female, assigned at the Medical Ward, we assigned to 5 patients, Catholic and are in service for 1 year or less; 2) Majority of the respondents from selected hospitals in Cavite have very good level of knowledge on universal precautions as prevention of nosocomial infection; 3) The respondents from selected hospitals in Cavite completely complied with hand-washing procedure, use of personal protective equipment, handling patient-care equipment and ways of preventing of needle stick/sharp injury in the prevention of nosocomial infection; 4) Respondents from different age groups, assigned to different number of patients, Catholic and non-Catholic, and with different years in service has no significant difference in prevention of nosocomial infection. On the other hand, respondents from different gender and assigned to different areas of assignment have a significant difference; 5) Respondents from selected hospitals from Cavite had no significant difference in the level of compliance regarding universal precaution in prevention of nosocomial infection regardless of age, area of assignment, gender, length of service, nurse-patient ratio, and religious affiliation; 6) There is no significant relationship between the level of knowledge and compliance of nurses regarding universal precautions in prevention of nosocomial infection among selected hospitals in Cavite.
