Abstract
This study made use of a qualitative-phenomenological method of research using purposive sampling. Tape recorded individual interviews with the participants were done to gather qualitative data. Significant non-verbal cues were also observed. The recorded interviews were then transcribed verbatim and each transcription was carefully analyzed using Colaizzi’s procedural steps. In conclusion, these are the well-defined truths seen on the study: That males with breast cancer are the same as any one who may be shocked, anxious, sad, uncertain and for some people, disappointed upon diagnosis and even up to their treatment procedures; The truth that these males with breast cancer have a vast support system that continuously assists them all throughout the fight with their disease; The truth that they create and maintain a deeper attachment with God as they surrender everything in His hands; The truth about hope of healing and surviving, as the most indispensable virtue that sustains these males with breast cancer to fight for life for themselves especially for their family, the one thing that makes these males with breast cancer continue their struggle, unhampered by how threatening cancer is, and against whatever odds the scientific and medical profession limits; The truth that even if his defense-mechanisms sometimes hide the intensity of his feelings the disease is reducing him to emptiness. He is a person not immune to the crisis of suffering every terminal patients undergo, regardless of age, sex and gender and responds more or less in the same way to the somatic process involved in his life. He deserves treatment, care and support, just like anybody else who has breast cancer.
