Abstract
Objectives of the Study General: The study aimed to determine the influence of food vlog content on the eating habits of nursing students at De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute. Specific: 1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of gender, screen time, social media platforms used, and year level? 2. What is the influence of food vlog content on the eating habits of nursing students? 3. Are there significant differences in the influence of food vlog content on nursing students' eating habits when they are grouped according to gender screen time, social media platforms used, and year level
Methodology The researchers utilized Quantitative Descriptive Analytic design to determine the influence of food vlog contents in social media on the eating habits of nursing students and determine if there are significant differences when grouped according to gender, screen time, social media platforms used, and year level.
Major Findings 1. Out of 314 respondents, 225 (71.7%) were female, 105 (33.4%) were 1st-year students, 99 (31.5%) were on screen for 5-6 hours, and 238 (30.7%) were users of social media platforms TikTok and YouTube. 2. In terms of the influence of food vlog contents, there is a significant influence on appetite (M=2.73 and SD= 0.322), consumption pattern (M=2.66 and SD=0.327), and food choices (M=2.75 and SD=0.400). Overall, food vlog content significantly influences the eating habits of nursing students (M=2.71). 3. There is a significant difference in appetite when grouped according to gender (p=0.011), and in appetite and consumption pattern when grouped according to year level (p=< 0.001). However, there is no significant difference in the influence of food vlog on appetite (p=0.057), consumption pattern (p=0.069), food choices (0.822), and overall eating habits (p=0.293) when grouped according to screen time.
Conclusions 1. The majority of the participants were female, 1st year students, and dedicated approximately 5 to 6 hours of their screen time to social media, and their preferred platforms are TikTok and YouTube. 2. Food vlogs significantly influence the eating habits of nursing students in terms of appetite, consumption patterns, and food choices. 3. There is a significant difference between eating habits and gender and year level. However, there is no significant difference in the eating habits and screen time.
