Abstract

Objectives of the Study General The study was primarily undertaken to assess the level of knowledge of young adults on the health risks of electronic cigarette use in Barangay Salitran II, Dasmariñas.

Specific Specifically, this study sought to determine the following: 1. The profile of the respondents in terms of sex, marital status, employment status, family monthly income, and the use of electronic cigarettes. 2. The level of knowledge of the respondents on the health risks of electronic cigarette use. 3. If there is a significant difference in the level of knowledge on the health risks of electronic cigarette use when they are grouped according to their profile. 4. The proposed health promotion intervention on the health risks of electronic cigarette use based on the findings.

Methodology A non-experimental descriptive-analytical design was utilized in this study to assess the level of knowledge of young adults on the health risks of electronic cigarette use in Barangay Salitran II, Dasmariñas, and to determine if there is a significant difference in the level of knowledge when they are grouped according to sex, marital status, employment status, family monthly income, and electronic cigarette smoking use.

Major Findings The following findings were drawn from this study 1. Out of 180 respondents, the majority are male (57.8%), most are single (95.4%), majority of respondents did not use electronic cigarettes (59.4%). majority students (67.2%), the majority had low family monthly income (66.1%) 2. 42.8% of the respondents exhibited a high level of knowledge on the health risks of electronic cigarette use. 3. There was a significant difference in the level of knowledge on the health risks of electronic cigarette use according to sex but no significant difference when grouped according to marital status, employment status, family monthly income, and electronic cigarette use.

Conclusions From the findings of this study, the following conclusions were drawn: 1. Majority of the respondents are male, single, students, do not use electronic cigarettes, and had a low monthly income. 2. Majority of respondents demonstrated a high level of knowledge on the health risks of electronic cigarette use. 3. The male respondents had a lower level of knowledge on the health risks of electronic cigarette use than the female respondents. However, the respondents have the same level of knowledge when grouped according to marital status, employment status, family monthly income, and electronic cigarette use.
