Abstract
This study explored the experiences of five participants regarding the care provided to them by student nurses from De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute during their hospitalization. The researchers utilized a qualitative descriptive research design, employing purposive and snowball sampling to select the participants. Data were collected through online and face-to-face interviews. The findings revealed a multifaceted narrative of experiences among participants regarding the care provided by student nurses, predominantly encompassing positive dimensions rather than negative ones. These experiences gave participants a platform to articulate their viewpoints on the care they received. Emphasis was placed on the crucial role of patient experiences in ensuring high-quality care, highlighting specific factors such as student nurses’ confidence, adaptability to patient needs, communication skills, efficiency, and attitude. These elements formed the essence of the study's themes, underscoring their significance in shaping the approach of student nurses toward patient care. The study emphasized the importance of student nurses learning from and adjusting to patient experiences to meet their needs effectively. Moreover, it demonstrated that student nurses must enhance and achieve competency in nursing skills, attitudes, and behaviors to maintain quality nursing care for better patient outcomes. As a result, the study recommends that student nurses demonstrate continuous growth and flexibility in responding to the needs and demands of patients. Additionally, nursing education should prioritize the enhancement of simulated clinical experiences to further develop the competency of student nurses in clinical settings.
