Abstract
This study utilized a descriptive-correlational and cross-sectional method of quantitative research. The 279 respondents were selected using stratified random sampling. The two research tools used were questionnaires. Data was analyzed using frequency distribution, percentage distribution, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA test and Pearson r. The study concluded that, 1) Majority of the respondents are female, grade 12 students, Roman Catholic, with a family income of ₱76,669 to ₱131,484 monthly, spend 4-6 hours every day on social media; 2) The perception of the influence of social media on body image of Senior High School students of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute in Academic Year 2021-2022 is good. In general, social media influences body image positively; 3) The perception of the influence of social media on self-esteem of Senior High School students of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute in Academic Year 2021-2022 is high self-esteem. In general, social media influences self-esteem positively; 4) In conclusion, the more positive the perceptions of students are on how social media influences their body image, the more likely they have a higher self-esteem and the more negative the perceptions of students are on how social media influences their body image, the more likely they have a lower self-esteem; 5) There is no significant difference between the perception of the influence of social media on the body image and the perception of the influence of social media on self-esteem when they are grouped according to sex, year level, socioeconomic status, and time spent on social media. However, there is a significant difference when grouped according to religion.
