Abstract

The study utilized a descriptive analytical method to determine the perceived level of competency of the DLSMHSI Graduating Nursing Students of Batch 2023. Quota sampling was used in the selection of the respondents and obtained 143 respondents in total. The researchers used a modified questionnaire that was adapted from the 2005 Nursing Core Competency Standards (NCCS) and a 4-point Likert-scale questionnaire. Data was analyzed through mode, mdean, T-test for independent samples and ANOVA test. From the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: 1. The majority of the respondents were female and resided in a dormitory. Dormitories could provide convenience to students as they could save time and focus more on their studies. 2. The perceived level of competency of the DLSMHSI Graduating Nursing Students of Batch 2023 was good. The respondents were unable to perform clinical duties without minimal guidance, however they were still able to assimilate adequate knowledge and demonstrate good or satisfactory performance. 3. The perceptions of the respondents on their level of competency could be used to build confidence in areas of nursing responsibilities with average positive perceptions of their knowledge and capability.
