Abstract
The study includes 137 third-year nursing students of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute second semester of Academic Year 2020-2021. The respondents are ages 18 and above, willing to participate in the study and were chosen randomly. The study also utilized correlational research design with a questionnaire tool that is composed of three parts: demographic profile of the respondents, adapted tool from Samina Yasmin and almas Kiani (2015) on academic performance and adapted tool from Dr. John R. Buri (1991) on Parental Authority. Simple random sampling technique was used to select the participants of the study. Correlation was determined by Spearman rho's test accompanied by other statistical treatments such as Slovin's formula. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and independent t-test and ANOVA. The study concluded that, 1) Majority of the respondents are 20 years old and above, female, Roman Catholic, and have a P51,000-P75,000 or P100,000.00 and above family income; 2) Most of the respondents experience an authoritative parenting style from both mother and father; 3) Most of the respondent have good academic performance; 4) There are no significant differences in the parenting styles experienced by the respondents when they are grouped according to age, sex, and religion. On the other hand, there is significant difference when they are grouped according to monthly income; 5) There are no significant differences in the academic performance of the respondents when they are grouped according to age, sex, religion and monthly income; 6) There is a significant relationship between the parenting styles experiences and the academic performance of the respondents.
