Abstract

The study utilized a descriptive quantitative research design. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling design. The research tool is comprised of 22 statements which are answerable using the Likert Scale. The actual data gathering was undertaken in February 2021. The researchers coordinated with the batch representatives after receiving approval from the Dean of the College of Nursing to inform the respective batches beforehand that the researchers would send an invitation for participation in which the link of the Google Survey form is attached. The study acquired 221 respondents in which only 177 respondents surpassed the criteria set for the study by the researchers. The set criteria are: (1) being 18 years old and above and (2) having less than 8 hours of sleep per day for at least 4 to 5 days in a week. Statistical tests used to answer the specific problems and to test the hypothesis of this study include (a) Mean, (b) Percentage, (c) Standard Deviation, (d) T-test, and (e) ANOVA. Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions are inferred: 1) Most of the nursing students are aged 21 years old and above and female. Most also spent at least 3 hours and above for academic requirements and nursing students per year level varied based on the criteria laid out during the preliminary survey, 2) The perceived effects of sleep deprivation on the academic performance of nursing students are mostly leading to negative effects which means that lack of sleep affects their ability to perform well in terms of academics, 3) There are no significant differences in the perceived effects of sleep deprivation on the academic performance of nursing students during HBALM when grouped according to age, number of hours spent for academic requirements, sex and year level.
