Abstract

The research study utilized a descriptive, non-experimental quantitative research design. The research instrument used was an adapted-modified questionnaire from the undergraduate thesis of Manalo, Maranan and Marquez (2014). The researchers used nonprobability sampling method, specifically the purposive sampling or judgmental sampling in choosing the respondents. The respondents of the study were the Senior High School of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute. With a total population of 1,099 students, the sample size includes 293 students from both grades 11 and 12. Sample size was determined through the use of Slovin's formula using 5% margin error. Data was analyzed through frequency distribution, percentage, mean, t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) Test. The study concluded that, 1) Most of the Senior High School students from De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute are females, has a normal range of body mass index, exercises a sedentary kind of lifestyle, and has a family history of lifestyle disease specifically diabetes mellitus, 2) The results of the research study revealed that the respondents are aware to the moderate extent when it comes to the awareness of obesity and its risk factors, 3) There is no significant differences in the level of awareness of obesity and its risk factors when the respondents are grouped according to sex, body mass index, weight, lifestyle, and family history of lifestyle diseases.
