Abstract
The study utilized the descriptive research design with a questionnaire tool composed of two parts: the Physical Self-Descriptive Questionnaire for physical health perception and the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale for mental health perception. Stratified random sampling technique was used to gather respondents from each year level at DLSMHSI College of Nursing. The data was treated with Mann-Whitney U Test and Kruskall-Wallis H Test, frequency distribution, percentage, mean, independent samples-t-test and ANOVA. The study concluded that 1) Majority of the respondents were females, first year students, and had a family income of P60,000 to P90,000, 2) The respondents had a positive perception both on their physical health and mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic. The occurrence of a worldwide pandemic has caused increased surveillance on health and safety measures. The students focused more on their physical health in wanting to keep their immune system strong, as evidenced by their perception of healthier diet choices, exercising habits, and avoidance of sickness. During the COVID-19 pandemic, students can allocate time and energy towards exercising, preparing healthy food, and avoiding of sickness. Since the pandemic has allotted nursing students much more free time, many have formed habits to strengthen their mental health and adapted different routines to stay healthy and productive despite being mandated to stay indoors, 3) For the nursing students health perception when grouped according to sex, males had a more positive perception on their physical health compared to females. However, in terms of mental health, males and females had equally positive perception which implied that mental health is unaffected by sex. For the nursing students' health perception when grouped according to year level, fourth year students had significantly positive perception on their physical health, all year levels had equally positive perception which implied that mental health is unaffected by year level. For the nursing students' health perception when grouped according to family monthly income, both physical and mental health were equally positive across all income groups. This implied that family monthly income has no effect on physical and mental health perception.
