Abstract

This is a study that determines whether there is congruency in nurses technical skills and caring ability as perceived by the selected patients of Cavite Medical Center, Cavite City. Specifically this will answer the following sub-problems; what are the patients understanding of technical skills and acting ability, what are the patience understanding as to the nurses caring ability, what are the gestures perceived by the patients as evidence of caring behavior of nurses, are the nurses capable of doing the technical procedures, do the nurses meet their patients need for psychological and emotional needs for support, are the nurses capable doing the technical skills and caring ability at the same time. The study will focus only on the procedures which provides comfort, specialized skills like manipulation of machine, drug administration and the assessment of needs, and some of the behavioral of the nurse. Findings include that there is no congruency in the nurses technical skills and caring ability wherein the mean score of 2.1 is taken, that the patients understanding of technical skills and caring ability differs from one another, holding of hands is primarily the gesture of care as perceived by the patients wherein 96.7% believe that this gesture is a caring behavior, the mean score of 2.2 is taken for nurses capability of performing the nurses technical skills, 2.2 is the mean score taken for the satisfaction as for the nurses ability to meet their psychological and emotional needs for support. Conclusions includes that the objectives of the study wherein all the necessary information for the study were met wherein all the necessary information for the study were obtained. The patients understanding of technical skills and caring ability and some in caring so that there is no congruency, that there is a moderate satisfaction regarding the patient's needs for psychological and emotional needs for support.
