Abstract
The study used a descriptive type of research. The samples of the study were composed of working students enrolled in De La Salle – EAC, school year 1990 to 1991. The method of selecting samples were purposive type. Data were gathered through the use of both tagalog and English questionnaires which were indeed open ended and checklist type in the open ended questions respondents were ask about their common problem and their coping mechanism while in the checklist respondents asked about the effect of their coping strategies. Data tallied b using a frequency distribution after collection of the questionnaire by the researchers. From the result obtained in the study, the following conclusions were derived: 1) There are more working students in the first year level, in male than in female, in single than in married, and in an extended type of family than in nuclear type; 2) That the find suitable jobs for themselves, considering the type of work and the number of working hours, in order that the can stud and work at the same time; 3) Their academic performance varies and is greatly affected b their type of work, number of working hours and problems the encountered; 4) The have “healthy” adaptation, several coping strategies were presented and majority vote for its effectiveness. Working students of DLSU-EAC were more matured, responsible and independent. Matured in the sense that they were able to think on how to build a better future, through having a higher education regardless of their financial difficulties. Responsible in the sense that they can handle two roles, two responsibilities at the same time. In dependent because they were able to stand on their own. They plan for themselves and reach out their goal.
