Abstract
In this study, the leaf sample was soaked and extracted with PE, DCM and EtOH to collect the different crude extracts. The DCM extract was further purified using silica gel column chromatography and the pure isolates were characterized through spectroscopic analysis. From the results, the pure isolates suggested that it was a terpene which has alkenic, hydroxyl and carbonyl functionalities. The crude extracts were characterized using phytochemical screening and antibacterial assay. Well diffusion test was done on the crude extracts against S. aureus (gram-positive) and E. coli (gram-negtive). The PE and EtOH crude extracts had a weak to moderate activity while the DCM extract had a week to no activity against the representative bacteria.
