Abstract

The study reviewed a total of 72 patients from 2014 to 2018 diagnosed with venous thromboembolism. These 72 patients are composed of 28 males and 44 females. The median age of patients having venous thromboembolism is 60.5 years for males and 71 years for females. Among the clinical presentation of venous thromboembolism, the most common complaints were pain (45.83%) and swelling (51.39%). The most observed risk factors for venous thromboembolism were hypertension, malignancy and diabetes mellitus. Majority of the patients diagnosed with venous thromboembolism in this institution were treated and discharged alive. This study recommended early recognition of patients that are high risk for venous thromboembolism and early administration of VTE prophylaxis.
