Abstract
The study group consisted of 4 adult female patients who were candidates for total thyroidectomy. Between August 2011 and August 2013, these patients underwent endoscopic thyroidectomy via bilateral axillary breast approach at the De La Salle University Medical Center. A detailed description of the surgical technique was provided. The mean age was 35.25 years (range, 31-43 years). The mean operating time was 336 minutes (range, 285 - 424 minutes). The mean diameter of the resected specimens was 4.75 cm (range, 4.5 - 6 cm), and 4.6 cm (range, 3.5 - 5.5 cm) for the left lobe and right lobe respectively with a mean weight of 22.75 grams (range, 20-25 grams). The mean intraoperative blood loss was 300mL (range, 100-300 mL). The histopathology results showed 3 cases with multiple colloid adenomatous goiter and 1 case with papillary thyroid carcinoma. The mean days of hospital stay was 3.75days (range, 3-5 days). No patient required conversion. All patients considered the cosmetic results excellent.
