Abstract
Fever is not a disease but rather an adaptive response of the body which can be done to both infectious and non-infectious causes. This is a report on an adolescent patient who had prolonged fever that was managed as a case of recurrent urinary tract infection outpatient and was eventually found to have infective endocarditis on admission. The course of the patient evolved as he had an ishemic stroke during treatment and eventually died due to complications of the disease. Infective endocarditis is an uncommon disease of childhood but of increasing important due to its changing epidemiology. This report aims to present a patient with infective endocarditis, discuss differential diagnoses of prolonged fever and discuss the pathophysiology of patient's signs, symptoms and complications as well as the principles of management for the general pediatrician.
