The prevalence of renal involvement and the clinical profile of pediatric patients with Henoch Schoenlein Purpura admitted at De La Salle University Medical Center

Abstract

Descriptive cross-sectional retrospective study was used. Review of medical records of patients with HSP admitted at De La Salle University Medical Center, Dasmarinas Cavite with renal involvement from January 2015 to December 2019 were used for data gathering. Prevalence of renal involvement was computed. Frequencies and percentages of demographic characteristics and clinical profile of patients were tabulated and analyzed. Prevalence of renal involvement was 81.54% among patients admitted due to HSP. Proteinuria was observed in less than 50% of the subjects, while hematuria, including microscopic and gross, was observed in more than ninety percent of the patients. In terms of laboratory parameters, leukocytes, thrombocytosis and lymphocytopenia were commonly observed. Majority of case of HSP had varying combinations of involvement during the disease course. Overall, HSP was observed to have good prognosis in which patients were discharged improved without sequalae.
