Saving balls : a rare case report of epididymo-orchities in neonates

Abstract

In this case report, presented with an 11-day old male with scrotal swelling. Upon birth, there was noted presence of erythema and edema along the scrotal area. Physical examination revealed presence of erythema, edema, warmth along the scrotal area with an estimated size of -6x4 cm., with positive transillumination and negative bag of worms. Inguino-scrotal ultrasound was done which noted presence of increased vascularity at left testicular area, highly suggestive of epididymo-orchitis rather than testicular torsion. The patient was treated initially with oxacillin and amikacin to cover for the possible etiologic agent, but was later changed to vancomycin upon retrieving final would discharge from staining and culture, and blood culture results. there was noted complete resolution and erythema and edema along the scrotal area after completing the antibiotics for fourteen days, and the patient was sent home well.
