Our institution's early experience with laparoscopic appendectomy : a case series

Abstract
A retrospective case series of laparoscopic appendectomies performed in 2009-2013. Outcome measures include post-op pain control, length of hospital stay, operative time, conversion to open appendectomy/laparotomy and other complications. The study concluded that 20 laparoscopic performed in the institution, advantages included a relatively short hospital stay and return to regular activity, reduced need for post-operative antibiotics and good pain control. Patients, should always be informed of its possible complications and disadvantages like conversion to open laparotomy, when necessary, and higher cost compared to the traditional open appendectomy.
