Abstract
The author presents a case of a 4-day old female coming in with signs and symptoms of gut obstruction-progressive abdominal distension, bilious vomiting, and failure to pass meconium for more than 38 hours of life. A laparotomy was performed revealing a Type IIIA colonic atresia, with a markedly dilated cecum and proximal ascending colon and an atretic distal segment. A tapering end colostomy was then performed and the patient was discharged improved after 10 days.
