Isolated rupture of a duodenal diverticulum secondary to blunt abdominal trauma : a case report and literature review

Abstract
A 17 year old male presented in the institution 29 hours post-injury - he was elbowed on the epigastric area while playing basketball. Exploratory laparotomy was done; handsewn diverticulectomy, duodenal closure and retroperitoneal drainage were performed. Re-exploration was done on the seventh day post-op due to leak; duodenorraphy, omental patching, pyloric exclusion and gastrojejunostomy were done thereafter. The patient was discharged improved twenty one days after the re-operation.
