Abstract

The overall rates of exclusive and mixed breastfeeding were 55% and 45%, respectively. It was found out that socio-cultural factors such as maternal age, educational attainment, employment status, monthly household income and number of living children were associated with breastfeeding practices of the respondents under study. Of all the variables studied, only the employment status was found to have a significant relationship with the infant feeding practices during the first 6 months and with the duration of exclusive breastfeeding.
