Abstract

In recent years, the essential role of radiation in modern medicine has continued to expand. However, this advancement has also brought increasing concern over the safe use of radiation within healthcare settings. At Eduardo L. Joson Memorial Hospital, the growing reliance on radiologic procedures revealed the need for more consistent and structured safety practices to protect both patients and healthcare workers. This capstone project, titled RADSAFE, was developed to address these concerns through the creation of a comprehensive Radiation Safety Manual responsive to the identified need of Radiology.

Through a series of qualitative interviews with Radiologic Technologists, the project uncovered key challenges in training, safety awareness, equipment maintenance, and policy implementation. The findings served as the foundation for several initiatives, including the implementation of a Radiation Safety Awareness Seminar that helped enhance understanding of safety protocols among staff. In addition, a Radiation Safety Committee was formally established to guide the development of the manual and oversee its integration into daily operations. With the support of hospital leadership and the active participation of the Radiology team, the committee worked together to draft and refine a manual that reflects both institutional needs and national safety guidelines.

This manual serves not only as a reference but as a reflection of collective insights, practical experiences, and shared commitment to patient and worker safety. The RADSAFE project illustrates how collaboration, education, and clear policies can promote a stronger culture of safety within healthcare institutions.
