Abstract

This research aims to determine the Rewarming Interventions and Music Therapy on the physiologic responses of postoperative patients. 1. What is the profile of respondents according to age, civil status and educational attainment? 2. What are the physiologic responses of postoperative patients before and after Rewarming Interventions and Music Therapy between those are exposed and not exposed to the interventions? 3. Are there significant differences on the physiologic responsed of postoperative patients before and after Rewarming Interventions and Music Therapy between those who are exposed and not exposed to the interventions? Methodology: The study utilized the quasi-experimental design specificaaly the non-equivalent group design or the pre test post test (before and after) to determine the phyiologic responses of selected postoperative patients. The respondents of the study are 40 postoperative patients who were confined in St. Paul Hospital CAvite, Dasmariñas, Cavite. Half of the patients were included in the treatment group who received Rewarming interventions and Music Therapy and the remaining 20 of them were assigned as a control group. The research instruments used were the following: data or information sheet used to determine the demographic profile of the respondents, Recors of Physiologic Responses adopted from the study of CAstillo (2000) to determine changes in temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure and O2 saturation before and after 15, 30, 60, 90 minutes the interventions administered. Permission was obtained from the Hospital Administrator, Nursing Directress, Director of Anesthesiologist, Director of OB Gyne and Attending Physicians to conduct the study. The actual data gathering procedure was undertaken from October 26, 2009 to January 20, 2010. Institution of Rewarming Interventions (Plastic wrap, Blanket and Radiant heat) and Music Therapy was done to the treatment group, in between a pre-test and post-test. The same procedure was done to the control group with the exception of the institution of the interventions (Plastic wrap and Music Therapy). In the analysis of data gathered, statistical treatments used in the study were relatively frequency, the mean and the t-test for uncorrelated or independent samples. Relative frequency was sed to determine the profile of the respondents according to demographic data. The mean was used to determine the physiologic responses of postoperative patients before and after implementation of Rewarming Interventions and Music Therapy. The t-test was used to determine differences between physiologic responses of postoperative patients who were exposed and were not exposed to Rewarming Interventions and Music Therapy.
