Abstract
This study aims to identify the gaps between misandry and misogyny as forms of gender bias and examine how gender bias impacts gender equality. The researchers used a qualitative phenomenological approach as the research method to understand the shared lived experiences of 6 participants, 3 boys and 3 girls. Data were collected through interviews and analyzed thematically to identify patterns in the teenagers' perceptions and experiences. The findings revealed that high school students recognized misandry and misogyny by being shaped by stereotypes, gender roles, traditional beliefs, and discrimination. Female participants experienced verbal discrimination, social discouragement, and their abilities being underestimated. In contrast, male participants reported having high expectations of their gender and being pressured to hide or suppress their emotions and weaknesses, which made it hard to be themselves. Despite these challenges, both gender rejects traditional norms and emphasize equality for men and women. Students also highlighted the impact of traditional beliefs, cultural expectations, stereotypes, and biases on shaping their perception of gender bias. They were able to recognize gender bias through their personal experiences of unfair treatment. The study concludes that awareness, education, and understanding are important in addressing misandry and misogyny. While cultural norms and gender bias remain, the findings suggest acting by raising awareness, education, discussing gender biases, and giving equal opportunities for both genders.
