Abstract

Social media is a major source of information especially for adolescents, including the health- related information shared by influencers. The abundance of information makes students with limited health and digital literacy vulnerable to misinformation, and there is limited literature about how students in specialized strands perceive health content. This study aims to examine how health information transmitted by social media health influencers is perceived by SHSSHS Grade 12 students of DLSMHSI in terms of their varied roles: spreading awareness, relevance of information, content delivery, and diversity of information, while also analyzing the relationship of demographic profiles to assess the overall effectiveness and reliability of the influencers. It employed a quantitative design using purposive-sampling method to garner 151 respondents who are given a questionnaire analyzed through statistical methods. It found out that their varied roles all have a moderate impact on the students. Statistical tests also show that there are no significant relationships based on sex or frequency of social media use, but there is a significant difference in the frequency of usage of Instagram and X. Students value how influencers present information yet remain skeptical about relying on them for health decisions. The study recommends strengthening students' health and digital literacy through collaborative efforts by individuals and institutions in order to use social media as an effective tool for health education.
