Abstract
he authors investigated how narcissism, the wish to fit in, and the use of TikTok among adolescents are linked. Researchers applied a cross-sectional predictive design by selecting 224 adolescents aged 13 to 19 in Dasmariñas, Cavite who use TikTok. We collected the data by applying the Narcissistic Grandiosity Scale and the Need to Belong Scale. A statistical analysis showed that narcissism is moderately linked to people’s desire for belonging (r = 0.435, p < .001). The findings showed that people who used TikTok more each day scored higher on narcissism and the desire to fit in, but more weekly use was relevant only to narcissism. Although there were many appearance-focused habits, exhibitionism and grandiosity weren’t highly prevalent. The research indicates that TikTok is both a space for people to express themselves and a means for appearance-related validation and feeling included by others to increase. The research reveals how adolescents feel about themselves due to their online activities and points out why it is important to guide their use of social media.
