Abstract

LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, among others) is still a controversial issue in our society as SOGIE (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression) encompasses various identities that go beyond the heterosexual orientation or the traditional binary concept of gender. Their practices clash with the Catholic Church’s beliefs as they follow the catholic teachings, concerning sexuality and marriage. This forms a conflicting relationship with the LGBTQIA+ community with the Catholic Church as they still promote sensitivity and inclusivity for LGBTQIA+ individuals within their community. Therefore, this study explored the perspectives of the liturgical ministers of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute (DLSMHSI) regarding LGBTQIA+ among the Special Health Science Senior High School (SHSSHS) students in A.Y. 2024-2025. This comprehensive study was conducted to liturgical ministers of the chapel within the DLSHSI premises as an attempt to find a clear understanding of the complex faith of the liturgical ministers through an interview of adapted and self-made questions regarding their belief on LGBTQIA+ community and how their beliefs affect the way they engage towards the LGBTQIA+ among SHSSHS students. Multiple interpretation and analysis were conducted on the gathered data. The findings revealed that the liturgical ministers of DLSHSI perceive the LGBTQIA+ individuals as valuable members of the Church community, recognizing their contributions in the Church community. The liturgical ministers emphasized their acceptance, compassion, and respect towards the LGBTQIA+ individuals, as they continue to create an inclusive and a welcoming environment within their community in adherence to their Catholic Doctrine. Their past two interactions with the people within the LGBTQIA+ community allowed them to approach LGBTQIA+ individuals with awareness, allowing them to promote a better community and a healthy environment in both religious and educational contexts.
