Abstract

This study examined the impact of K-pop music on the academic motivation of Grade 11 students at De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute Senior High School (DLSMHSI-SHS) during the academic year 2023-2024. Utilizing a mixed-method approach, this research integrated both quantitative and qualitative data to explore how K-pop music influences student’s attention, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction (ARCS model) in their academic performance. Data collection involved surveys and interviews, focusing on students who frequently listen to K-pop music while studying.

Findings suggest that K-pop music has a moderate to significant effect on a student's academic motivation. Many respondents reported that K-pop music helps enhance focus, boost confidence, and provide emotional support while studying. The rhythmic and lyrical elements of K-pop were found to stimulate motivation, reduce academic stress, and improve concentration. However, results also indicate that individual preferences and study habits play a crucial role in determining the effectiveness of K-pop music as a study aid. This study contributes to the growing discussion on the relationship between music and academic performance, particularly among Generation Z students. The findings may be beneficial for students, educators, and future researchers in understanding how music can be effectively utilized to support academic motivation.
