Abstract

TikTok is an app that has gained immense popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Students mostly use the app as leisure and entertainment from the stress they get from their academics. However, the app contains an algorithm

that is designed to engage the users which can lead to addictive behaviors. Self- control plays a significant role in the student's performance and their overall well- being. This study aimed to determine the relationship of TikTok Addiction and

Self-control for enhanced understanding relevant in the era of social media. The researchers utilized a correlational research design with the statistical treatment of Pearson’s R together with the use of the Brief Self-control and TikTok Addiction Scale. Students (N = 225) of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute Senior High School participated in this study through the use of convenience sampling. The findings showed a weak significant relationship between the two variables with an r-value of -0.172 and a p-value of 0.005. This implied that there was a weak correlation between students with lower levels of self-control to have higher addiction to TikTok. The results suggested other factors could affect TikTok addiction, indicating that different research methods could be useful.. Moreover, the results found that the students have moderate levels of both variables. This study focused solely on self-control, concluding that it is not a primary deciding factor in the development of TikTok Addiction. This study encourages the institution to form interventions that can promote healthy habits concerning self-control for the well-being of students.
