Abstract
This study sought to assess the levels of awareness of Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) in Dasmarinas City, Cavite, about using DOH-approved herbal medicinal plants for common illnesses. This understanding helps promote health interventions and integrate alternative therapies, providing insights into public health strategies and community well-being. This study examined comparative differences in knowledge about DOH-approved herbal medicinal plants, preparation, and implications or side effects of DOH-approved herbal medicinal plants. The researchers utilized a quantitative-comparative research design and conducted it through purposive and snowball sampling among 100 respondents of Barangay Health Workers in Dasmarinas City, Cavite. The questionnaire contains the demographics, level of awareness, preparation, and implications or side effects of the DOH-approved herbal medicinal plants. Overall, most respondents showed moderate awareness. While they were aware of the availability of DOH-approved herbal plants, their knowledge of active components and the possible risks of incorrect use could have been improved. The study discovered some differences in knowledge, but overall, awareness was moderate across all categories. The findings emphasize the need for focused educational interventions to increase BHWs' awareness of herbal medicines, emphasizing active components, correct preparation procedures, and the possible consequences of improper use to promote safety and efficacy in local communities.
