Abstract

Heavily inspired by Erik Erikson’s Developmental Stages Theory, this study aims to fill in the gap of knowledge existing regarding the health and well-being of senior citizens residing in the selected cities and municipalities in Cavite, by analyzing the factors that influences their sense of self. This study also aims to derive conclusions by gathering data regarding the demographic profile of the respondents and the factors that affect the sense of self of the respondents in terms of the five (5) aspects that make up the individual’s holistic well-being. These are namely the physical, emotional, mental, social, and spiritual aspects of one’s sense of self. Also, by analyzing how these factors influence the sense of self of the respondents, and determining whether there is a significant relation between the factors and the respondents’ sense of self when grouped according to their demographic profiles. This study follows a mixed-method approach, in which both quantitative and qualitative data are gathered. Through applying statistical treatments and thematic analysis, this research was able to conclude that there is in fact no significant difference between the factors and the sense of self of the individuals when grouped according to their demographic profiles. This study is serviceable as it may be used as basis and foundation for developing programs that may improve the quality of life and address the needs of senior citizens residing in Cavite. Furthermore, this may also help professionals understand and suffice them better.
