Abstract

As an integral part of their educational experience, ROTC programs aim to develop discipline, leadership skills, and nationalistic values among students. However, varying opinions exist regarding its mandatory nature. This study aimed to identify the perceptions of DLSMHSI-SHSSHS regarding the mandatory implementation of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) as part of the SHS curriculum. A quantitative-descriptive design was utilized, and data were gathered using a survey questionnaire as the main instrument of the study. Onsite and Online surveys through Google Forms were the main modes of data collection. Findings revealed that DLSMHSI-SHSSHS had a neutral opinion of the implementation of mandatory ROTC, implying that the respondents were uncertain about the impact of ROTC as a requirement. Furthermore, a significant difference was observed among the respondents with regards to their grade level, which indicates that this variable influenced their perceptions of the implementation of mandatory ROTC. Given that the majority of the respondents were uncertain, as manifested in their neutral response, the government should take into account the reinforcement of promoting ROTC among students to further increase their knowledge and awareness about the benefits of ROTC.
