Abstract

his study used an experimental research design. Ethanolic extract of Eleusine indica (Paragis) underwent in ovo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay to determine its antiangiogenic potential. After performing one-way ANOVA and Tukey's HSD test (significant at p< 0.05), results revealed that the ethanolic extract of Eleusine indica (Paragis), significantly suppressed angiogenesis when compared to the negative control group (18.30±4.191) with the highest activity observed at 300 ppm concentration (1.90± .876, p=.000) followed by the 200 ppm concentration (8.00±2.944, p=.000, and 100 ppm concentration (11.30± 1.252, p= .000). It was also noted that the Eleusine indica (Paragis) ethanolic extract has a comparable activity with the standard drug Paclitaxel both at 300 ppm contrations (p=1.000). The findings suggest that Eleusine indica (Paragis) can be a potential source of antiangiogenic agents for the design and development of drugs targeting angiogenesis.
