Abstract

This study intends to ascertain the antibacterial potential of varying concentrations of Mimosa pudica as inhibitors to the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Extraction of the said plant species was done through maceration, which then corresponded to four different concentrations (treatment group), particularly in 100%, 75%, 50% and 25%. As with the bacterial component, pseudomonas aeruginosa was inoculated in a Mueller-Hinto Agar and then analyzed through the Kirby-Bauer Test. The test was done with the antibiotic Ceftazidime (Positive Control) since its is the standard antibiotic for inhibiting Pseudomonas Aeruginosa-related infections, together with 95% ethanol (negative control), which was used to dilute the concentrations. Results showed that the inhibitory property of the crude extract is directly proportional to its concentration. As the concentration of the crude extract lessened, it's inhibitory property declined. The crude extract with 100% concentration showed that most inhibitory property and displayed an average zone of inhibition, measuring 15 mm. Alone, the crude extracts have shown bacterial susceptibility but in comparison with inhibitory value of Ceftazidime (24.67mm), it showed bacterial resistance.
