Abstract

In this study, the researchers aimed to identify which plant extract has the most effective antibacterial property in relation to the zone of inhibition and to determine if there is a specific significance between the antibacterial effects of the individual and combined plant extracts in terms of zone of inhibitions. To conduct the experiment, the researchers prepared 100% pure malunggay extract, 100% pure guava extract, 75% malunggay extract and 25% guava extract for the combined synergistic effect. Disk diffusion assay was done to complete the experiment. The results showed that there is a notable difference between the ethanolic extracts in relation to the zone inhibition. However, it has not been proven that there is a significant difference between the effects of the raw plant extract on bacterial growth in comparison to the mixtures that were the focus of this study. The researchers advise taking measures to ensure the quality of the ethanolic extracts by measuring variables such as RPM, temperature and time when preparing the ethanolic extracts for use; in addition, it is pertinent to the study that the consistent effects of Psidium guajava be determined.
