Abstract
The coronavirus disease pandemic of 2019 (COVID-19) remains to impose serious threats to society. Its spread has been slowed by techniques such as self-isolation, social distancing, and home quarantine. However, this may lead to the adoption of physical inactivity and sedentary behaviors. The researchers of this study aim to understand of physical inactivity and sedentary behaviors of the Grade 12 students of DLSMHSI SHSSHS during the COVID-19 pandemic. The researchers decided to engage their study through Survey research. Therefore, an online survey was randomly distributed among 150 respondents, 13 students from each 12 sections. Survey questions include an adapted version of IPAQ-SF that assesses the students’ physical activity and sedentary behaviors. The prevalence rates of physical inactivity and high sedentary behaviors show that 45.3% of the Grade 12 Students are engaged in a moderate level of physical activities. Moreover, 45.3% of the respondents observed no physical changes in their bodies. The following outcome of the study shows that most of the participants have an average level of physical activities and sedentary behaviors, with no physical changes observed among Grade 12 students during the COVID-19 pandemic. This will help health managers and professionals build population-specific health education and behavior interventions during this outbreak and for future purposes.
