Abstract

The study employs a descriptive research design to determine the knowledge of vapers on the risks of using electronic cigarettes. The respondents were recruited via snowball sampling. Thirty eight (38) vapers were the pilot respondents. The respondents referred other respondents to the researchers which built the sample population. The respondents brought in more respondents and eventually lead to further recruitment of additional respondents until the desired sample size of 101 was reached. A self-made questionnaire was used in the study. The data gathered were treated using the following statistical tools: frequency, mean, percentage distribution, standard deviation, t-test for independent means, analysis of variance(ANOVA), and Duncan’s multiple range test. Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions were made: 1) Greater number of the respondents came from the age group of 18-23 years old, male, high school graduate, and with usage duration of 10 months; 2) The study shows that the respondents have very low knowledge on the risks of using electronic cigarettes; 3) There are no significant differences on the respondents’ knowledge on the risks of using electronic cigarettes when groups according to age, gender, and educational attainment. There is a significant differences on the respondents’ knowledge on the risks of using electronic cigarettes when groups according to usage duration. Significant differences were noted between the group of respondents with a usage duration of 10 months and below, the group of respondents with 11-20 month usage duration and the group of respondents with 21 months and above usage duration. Respondents who have been using electronic cigarettes for 10 months and below have higher knowledge compared to respondents who have been using electronic cigarettes for 11-20 months and 21 months and above.
