Abstract
This study is aimed to explore the barriers and facilitators influencing strength training adherence among collegiate volleyball athletes enrolled in health sciences programs and determine how academic and athletic demands affect adherence of the athlete. A qualitative research design was employed using semi structured one-on-one interviews and a focus group discussion. The study was conducted at De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute (DLSMHSI) and involved four collegiate volleyball athletes, two coaches, and one sports coordinator, and pilot participants were excluded from the final implementation. A validated and pilot tested semi structured interview guide was utilized, and data were analyzed through thematic analysis that is supported by triangulation, member checking, and external moderation to ensure credibility and trustworthiness of the study. There are four major themes emerged: Internalized Athletic Identity and Goal-Driven Discipline Sustain Training Adherence, Supportive Team Dynamics and Structured Leadership Reinforce Consistent Participation, Academic Demands Compete with Training Priorities, Institutional demands and Individual Self-management Interact to Shape Strength Training Adherence. The findings show that strength training adherence is influenced by personal, social, organizational, sociocultural factors. Improving institutional support and time management may improve the long-term adherence of the athlete
