Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of education programs in increasing the dementia awareness among senior citizens. This study aimed to (1) describe the demographic profile of the participants, (2) determine the difference between pre- and post-test in Dementia Background, Physical Therapy Management, and Prevention, (3) assess the effectiveness of the educational program through the awareness of the participants, and (4) determine the relationship of the demographics with the test results. A quasi-experimental research design was utilized. There were 42 senior citizens from Dasmariñas, Cavite, who were included in the study conducted at the Animo Center of De La Salle Medical Health and Sciences Institute. Participants were asked to accomplish a pre-test prior to the

start of the program to help the researchers assess their level of knowledge. After the program, the participants were once again asked to answer a post-test questionnaire. The results of the study showed that there were limited to no improvements in the post-test scores. These results could have been hindered by negative factors such as time constraints, hunger, and attention span. In conclusion, the educational program had limited significance due to contextual and environmental factors. This highlights the necessity for a more individualized educational approach to take into account the diverse learning preferences and the cognitive capacity of the older adults, which in result improves the knowledge and awareness for dementia when providing educational programs.
