Abstract

This qualitative study described the satisfaction of post-stroke patients from St. Paul Hospital, Cavite Department of Physical Therapy and De La Salle University Medical Center Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation after Wiihabilitation. Such patients are currently receiving therapy sessions at the said rehabilitation clinics. Sessions involving the use of Nintendo Wii were conducted to 3 patients from the two rehabilitation centers. The study consisted of 6 sessions of using Nintendo Wii with the program selected by the participant and lasted based on the patient's tolerance. Generated standard operating procedure was used upon seeing the patient after their usual therapy. After the 6th session, the patients were interviewed and were asked a series of questions to know the respondent's satisfaction. After a careful analysis of the gathered data, major categories such as seeing Nintendo Wii as a form of therapy, psychological effects and mental efforts were extracted from responses. After the use of Nintendo Wii, the participants claimed that they felt like they are doing therapy. It also showed that they saw it as a good way of releasing stress and boredom. The competitive spirit of the participants was triggered by the artificial intelligence offered by the game itself. In conclusion, all of the respondents had a positive response to Nintendo Wii with regards to satisfaction therapy. Aside from stroke, the use of Nintendo Wii can also applied to other disability-causing diseases such as Parkinsonism, Cerebral Palsy, Frozen Shoulder, etc.
