Abstract

Mobility exercises, proper bed positioning and the use of a sling were important to home instructions carried out by all stroke patients who remain paralyzed. The study made to prevent the onset of secondary complications that can only cause more disability. The staff of the DLSUMC-DIMDRU relied heavily on a home program for their stroke patients due to poor compliance with scheduled rehabilitation treatment sessions. Discharged CVA patients residing in Imus, Dasmariñas, and Silang, Cavite interviewed using a survey questionnaire to determine if patients performed the prescribed home program. 20 patients included in the study. Results showed 1) out of the three preventive care areas (exercises, proper bed positioning and use of a sling) the patients frequently did the exercises. 2) There was poor compliance with the instructions for proper bed positioning and the use of a sling. 3) In the majority of the cases, implementation of all aspects of the CVA home program not properly performed. 4) There appears to be a lack of awareness of the rationale behind the various aspects of the home program.
