Abstract
This study deals with the frequency of pressure sore grades among the paraplegic in-patients at the Philippine Orthopedic Centers from January 1990 to January 1991. This study focused on determining the frequency of the pressure sites and the pressure grades among the subjects. To determine the most occurring pressure sore grade and the most commonly affected sites. This study used a descriptive study, conducted on twenty-two paraplegics, respondents, at the Philippine Orthopedic Center among sixty paraplegics, at the Philippine Orthopedic Center among sixty paraplegic’s in-patients of the former's pressure sore. The Data gathered from the in-patients' medical charts and used the percentile method to tabulate and compute the results. The study showed that the pressure sore grades ranged from grades 1 to 4, found that the total population prevalent was grade 1, 35.52% of the total population. It found that the three major sites where pressure sores develop were the sacral area, buttock, lateral malleolus, and the heel, followed by the ischial tuberosity. The authors recommend that further study made and include the following: (1) all quadriplegics at the Philippines Orthopedic Center, (2) the pathologic and metabolic conditions of the patients, (3) the evaluation of the preventive and curative measures of the pressure sore at the Philippine Orthopedic Center.
